Poinsettia Care

You just bought some beautiful Poinsettias, and now you have to figure out how to care for them properly. Poinsettias are not very demanding so the care for them is fairly easy. Below are tips on how to properly care for your Poinsettias and make sure they last as long as possible.

  1. Make sure you place them near a window that receives plenty of light.

  2. You want to try and keep them in a room with the temperature between 65 – 75 degrees. Try to keep the leaves from being in contact with cold windows, this could damage the leaves.

  3. You should water your Poinsettias when the soil feels dry. Water until you see the water draining from the bottom, but do not let the plant sit in the water.

Re-Growing

To keep your Poinsettias after the holiday’s continue to water until the middle of Spring. After that allow the plant stems to shrivel up and then cut all the growth to a couple inches just above the soil and repot it in new soil. Keep it watered and use houseplant fertilizer when it begins to grow again. Once this happens, move it outside to a shady location through the middle of Summer and then place it back in your home again. Then, during Fall keep the plant in the dark during the day, while still watering, and by the holiday season, it should be like new again.
